We create custom cakes to order…and no job is too big! We hold the Guiness World Record for creating the largest cupcake—if you can dream it, we’ll create it to your exact specifications.

We’ve created cakes for movie stars, sports legends and pop stars—and every single cake we make, whether it’s for Al Pacino, Paris Hilton, Yasiel Puig, Oscar de la Hoya, Usher, Fergie, a new baby boy or a high school graduation, you’ll get treated like a celebrity!

About Us 

Ricky Jurado

Ricky isn’t just the owner of Merengue Bakery—he’s their biggest fan!

As a resident of Monrovia, Ricky was a Merengue regular for years, while running his family’s business. He was born in Los Angeles and raised by a very traditional Cuban family, learning and loving every traditional recipe his family made.

Ricky brings a love for both the bakery and the tradition to Merengue Bakery. His love for the business shines through with every creation and every single customer who enters the shop.

In his free time, you can often see him in the café, sipping on a cafécito Cubano—unless the Dodger game is on!

George Algarin

Merengue Bakery holds a special place in his heart, as well as Cuban cuisine. George grew up in the bakery business, working at his godfather’s bakery in Hawthorne. During his adolescence, he spent every summer there learning everything there is to know about the Cuban bakery business.

George began working at Merengue Bakery in 2008, bringing his passion and deep love for the bakery. He brings the tradition and the craft to every single Merengue Bakery customer and creation and is the friendly face of the storefront.
