A Sweet Story of Community:
The Heart of Merengue Bakery...
Since opening its doors in 2009, Merengue Bakery has been more than just a place to grab a treat — it’s been a cornerstone of Monrovia’s vibrant, close-knit community.
From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with the warm smell of fresh pastries, the buzz of friendly conversation, and a team that knows your name. At Merengue, we don’t just bake cakes — we build connections. Every flaky pastelito and sweet slice of cake is made with care, love, and a genuine passion for the people we serve.
Over the years, we’ve proudly stood shoulder to shoulder with our community, supporting countless local events and organizations. The annual pie eating contest at Monrovia Days? We’re the sponsor behind the whipped cream chaos. Have you seen our Samson Bear in front of store? We love her!
We believe every cupcake and coffee served is another chance to make someone’s day a little better. We sponsor youth sports teams, support school fundraisers, and show up—because Monrovia has always shown up for us.
More than a bakery, Merengue is part of the Monrovia story — a place where birthdays are celebrated, friendships are made, and memories are baked fresh daily.
So come on in. Sit down. Take a bite. You’re family here.

We hold the Guinness World Record for creating the largest cupcake. From simple treats to extraordinary creations, we'll bring your vision to life.

Celebrity Favorite
Celebrities like Jamie Foxx and Al Pacino have savored our creations, but we believe every guest deserves the red-carpet treatment when it comes to their special cake.

Cuban-American Heritage
Ricardo “Ricky” Jurado is the passionate owner of Merengue Bakery. Raised in Temple City by a traditional Cuban family, Ricky was immersed in the rich culinary traditions of Cuba from a young age. He learned to cherish the authentic recipes passed down through generations, which ignited his lifelong love for Cuban cuisine and hospitality.
Ricky’s dedication to his family and the bakery is evident in every aspect of the business. He views his team as an extension of his family, ensuring that every customer receives personalized attention and leaves with a smile. His love for socializing is reflected in the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the bakery, where conversations flow as freely as the café’s espresso.
In his leisure time, Ricky can often be found in the café, enjoying a cafécito Cubano—unless, of course, the Dodgers are playing . His commitment to preserving Cuban culinary traditions while fostering a sense of community makes Merengue Bakery a cherished establishment in Monrovia.
